Algebra Quadratics, Dots and Boxes Fun Game
Students, as sophisticated as they believe they are, still love playing dots and boxes. This is the game where they take turns drawing lines to close or capture a box. In this Algebra version, each box has a quadratic equation in it. When a player captures the box, he/she must find the solutions and find the sum of the zeros (roots). They record that value on their recording sheet, and when all the boxed are captured, add the players add their points to see who wins. Lots of strategies built in, as some values are negative, and zero.
This game provides students with practice solving quadratics using any of the following methods:
• Square Roots
• Completing the Square
• The Quadratic Formula
Great practice and lots of fun! Answer key included.
