In this packet, there are examples, definitions, and "on your own" problems that can be used in a Pre-Algebra or Algebra classroom. The packet introduces systems of linear equations. It begins with examples and instructions on how to solve a system by graphing. On each graphing example, a coordinate plane is provided. Next, there are solving systems using substitution. Prior to starting substitution, there is a prerequisite skills page reviewing how to substitute a single numerical value. Finally, there are solving systems using elimination. Elimination is divided into three tiers of problems: adding the equations, multiplying by -1, and multiplying by a number. In each method, special cases are discussed such as no solution and infinitely many solutions. After discussing, the three methods of solving systems there is a section for students to discuss and record when it would best to use each method. The packet concludes with application of system of equations. These are word problems that translate into a system of equations. This packet can be used to give notes or for extra practice.
