Algebraic Expressions Picture Puzzle Activity
This puzzle activity is a fun and engaging way for students to practice translating math phrases into algebraic expressions. Each puzzle piece corresponds to a problem number and has a matching answer on the template. Their goal for this activity is to put the picture puzzle together by converting math phrases into algebraic expressions.
Note to teachers:
Below are sample math phrases taken directly from this activity to help you decide if the problems are appropriate for your students.
- Two less than half a number
- One more than three times a number
- Three divided by the sum of a number and three
- The square of a number decreased by the number
- A number increased by half of the number
You may require students to show their work on separate sheets of paper.
