This packet begins with context-based problems with function tables to complete. After completing the tables, students will write an equation to express the rule for the table using a variable “N” for any number. Examples are provided.
Student them move on to a golf themed worksheet that asks students to match up contextual problems (story problems) to the appropriate equation.
Answer key is included for every problem
Challenge your students to use equations to solve function boxes and any other mathematical problems they come across – especially story problems. If students use equations with a variable (n x 7 = total items) instead of words like “times by seven”, they will be better prepared to take on algebra in middle school!
