BBC has an amazing documentary "The Secret Rules of Modern Living: Algorithms." Mathematician Professor Marcus du Sautoy demystifies the hidden world of algorithms in a very approachable and understanding way, and it's available on Netflix!
This foldable brochure graphic organizer is designed to accompany the documentary, allowing students to take effective, but individual notes. They will identify the problem being address by the specific algorithm, sketch out how it works, and even note everyday applications.
The last page of the document is a review activity to wrap up the end of the lesson. After watching the documentary, students will have the opportunity to learn first hand why algorithms are useful in the everyday world, specifically with a soda machine.
