The following 15-question multiple choice quiz assesses a reader's understanding and analysis of Alice Walker's short story "Everyday Use." The first 5 questions are matching questions that challenge readers to match 5 quotes to the best or most evident method of indirect characterization used (speech, thoughts, effects/reactions, actions, and looks); each question is worth 1 point. The remaining 10 questions, which are worth 2 points each, are multiple choice questions assessing a student's knowledge of characterization, inferences, plot, symbolism, and use of punctuation. The questions are NOT simple, low level comprehension questions on Bloom's taxonomy scale. The quiz can be used as a 25-point summative assessment. A packet or guide on the short story with pre-reading and during-reading activities is available as a separate purchase.
