We use the clip up/clip down charts for behavior management in our classrooms, and find that integrating behavior charts that tie in with learning make it more fun for everyone. We often focus our behavior charts on our current reading unit, history unit, or science unit.
This product uses ideas related to Alice in Wonderland to help students stay on track with this type of behavior management. We typically label each section of the chart with what the student earns or loses when they arrive at that point, and send home a note or reward when they make it to the top or clip off the chart.
When you are ready to construct your chart follow these steps: print and laminate on cardstock, use with clothespins (labeled with student numbers or names) to move up or down the chart based on their choices in the classroom, add reward or consequence in small print or tape object on the chart, and finally hole punch and hook together with metal rings. Here is a picture of one of our clip charts and how we hang it in the classroom. We use different charts throughout the year. Students get to start over everyday.
Our rewards and consequences are as follows:
Mad Hatter’s Tea Party: ticket to go to the Tea Party in the classroom at the end of the book and/or to play croquet ( see last page)
Chesiretastic: A “Fantastic Note” goes home to parents, see printable on last page
Tweedle Dede: Dolphin Card (schoolwide incentive, students earn 10 and they get to go to the Token Tower on Fridays)
In Wonderland: Starting point at the beginning of each day
Caught Painting the Roses Red: Warning
Late for a Very Important Date: Walk Laps at recess, slip signed by coach and parents
Off with Her Head: note home to parents with signature required(see printable on last page)
