Product Description
This is a collection of worksheets and tests that work for a month long introduction to formal logic and fallacies using Alice in Wonderland. There are 22 worksheets in all. There are 7 worksheets introducing formal logic with syllogisms and correct use of Venn diagrams in determining validity. Then there are 11 worksheets on logical fallacies. Finally there are two tests and an answer key for each of the tests.

The formal logic section uses ideas from the Alice's Adventures in Wonderland book in the examples. The logical fallacy section features passages from the book illustrating each fallacy. Lewis Carroll was a master logician and loved to play with logic within his books. Thus, introductory training in logic helps a reader to more fully appreciate his works.

The worksheets are meant to give students practice with beginning logic concepts, as well as the logical fallacies found within Alice in Wonderland. They are meant to be used after the teacher has taught a brief mini-lesson explaining the logical topic each worksheet covers to the class. That is how I use them. If you as the teacher aren't familiar with the subject of beginning formal logic it might be difficult to understand the few Venn Diagramming pages at the end of the formal logic section in this packet. However, there are a lot of great 15 to 20 minute videos on YouTube teaching this entire concept that you can watch to quickly grasp the process. I have a couple of links on those pages to a webpage and video that will give you the background you need, If you've never seen Venn Diagrams used for the purpose that they were originally intended for, it is quite fascinating and fun. The logical fallacies from the Alice in Wonderland book will probably be understandable to any teacher from the worksheets alone regardless of previous training.

This unit takes me a month to teach. I have done this with Gifted 5th grade and middle school classes.

If you would like high order comprehension questions for each chapter of the book, instead of this logic unit, please see my Alice's Adventures in Wonderland Comprehension Questions offering in my store.

If you would like both this logic unit and the comprehension questions you can buy the Alice in Wonderland Comprehension and Logic Unit Combo at a reduced price over buying them separately.

If you would also like comprehension questions for the sequel book (Through the Looking-Glass, and what Alice Found there) buy my Complete Wonderland and Looking-Glass Comprehension and Logic Unit Combo instead. This combo has all three Alice units (the two comprehension units for both the books as well as the logic unit) and is sold at a reduced price over buying them separately.
