In this fun and engaging activity students prepare for an Alien Apocalypse by using landforms for survival. In a mock invasion, Homeland Security directs Americans to settle the uninhabited continent of Africa and establish settlements throughout the continent. Students are tasked with completing a settlement sheet where they must specifically detail how and where they will obtain needed resources for survival, set up regions such as mining and agriculture and establish human settlements.
Upon completion of the above task, students are asked to complete one of the following:
1) Design a cruise for individuals to travel learning about points of interest in Africa.
2) Create a Public Service Announcement warning of the Alien invasion.
3) Create blue print of Africa detailing the different regions established on their Settlement sheet.
This is used as a transfer task after completing Geography Standard 1A (mapping, human settlements, landform uses and natural resources etc)
