This activity is designed to help students develop understanding and mastery of Science TEKS 5.9B and 5.9C. Often our students make meaning by what they already know and not what is presented in front of them. By taking away the common factor students have to utilize the information provided in the data charts to correctly develop a food web for the "new ecosystem".
A second element is provided where students are given another scientist's representative, however the scientist is wrong. Students are asked critical thinking questions that'll formatively assess students level of understanding, and provide teachers the opportunity to provide corrective feedback.
Cut out the organisms on page 2. Using the chart and dry erase markers let the student create the food web on their desk using the dry erase markers to accurately represent the transfer of energy (the arrows).
