Each student lays down a card. Whoever has the higher value wins the cards.
Here is a set of WAR cards to promote basic number sense through comparing numbers while also having students practice previously learned skills.
This set is focuses on simple multiplication with variables. Variables are written with the standard x multiplication symbol (as 9 x p), directly after the number (as in 9p), and with a symbol (as in 9 x triangle). Also, the multiplication facts themselves are mostly x3’s, x4’s, x6’s, x7’s, and x8’s since students have a harder time memorizing those and can use some more repetition.
For use during game time, math centers, fun Friday, rainy day recess, or workshop.
I, myself, use it with my combo class to keep them learning while I am teaching the other grade level.
Total of 48 cards.
