Here are all 5 text structures in one convenient Power Point: cause and effect, compare and contrast, simple procedure [or procedural], sequential order, and descriptive. One short story is used in all five ways to show the difference in structures and to show that a writer can use which ever one he or she chooses, depending on his or her purpose. This PP also points out key words to identify the text structures and allows for students to write. It also encourages students to look for these structures in their own texts, as encouraged in the Common Core State Standards. It can be easily printed off as slides and used as notes or given to students who are absent. This could be a week's worth of minilessons in one!
