This activity provides a hands-on experience for groups of students to "build" atoms, determine the element, charge, and mass from a given number of subatomic particles. It can be differentiated for different levels by discussing isotopes and writing electron configurations. This can be used an an introductory activity for a basic chemistry class or somewhat of a summative activity for a junior high class.
This lab requires M&Ms of three different colors for each group. (Needs 12 of each color.)
