All About Birds

This packet will help your kindergarten and first grade students learn, understand, and practice using the science terms used when talking about birds. It also will provide you with resources to make your unit come to life. By integrating science and nonfiction into your language lessons, you not only create an enthusiasm in your students, but you can create the "hook" you need to engage even the most reluctant learners.

This packet is aligned to the NGSS standards as well as the Texas TEKS. (They are included in the packet for you to reference as well as at the top of the lesson plans!) It includes many resources including: fully written out 5-E lesson plans, 3- part cards, pocket chart cards, (both featuring high quality pictures) student vocabulary books, center activities, posters, recording pages, science activities/projects, and so much more!

In using this pack, students will meet these objectives:

-Students will learn the parts of a bird.
-Students will learn about bird adaptations.
-Students will learn what birds live in their area.
-Students will learn how animals rely on their environments.
-Students will learn the vocabulary words: bird, habitat, adaptation, diet, environment, cold-blooded, warm-blooded, feathers, talons, prey, predator, oviparous, vertebrate, diurnal, nocturnal, observe.

There are many opportunities for your students to use this engaging topic to research and write about what they are learning. The packet includes activities, recording pages, mini books, and more!

The 5-E lesson plans included are:
1. What is a bird?
2. What birds live in our area?
3. What type of food do our local birds prefer?
4. Bird adaptations: Why do birds have different shaped beaks?
5. Why do birds have different shaped feet?
6. Bird nests and eggs
7. Specific birds and culmination

All lessons are presented in the 5-E format. (engage, explore, explain, elaborate, evaluate) They are written out step by step! Each lesson also comes with beautiful pictures and engaging activities to help your children understand the objectives in a hands-on way. Many of the lessons also contain links to videos and resources to use while teaching the lesson! I have also included paired fiction and non-fiction books to go with each 5-E lesson plan!

Your students will LOVE these lessons.
