All About Categories Boom Cards™

This is the BOOM Card version of my All About Categories Flipbooks. You can use these category activities only on the Boom Learning website or app. If you want All About Categories Flipbooks to print out or use as a static PDF with an annotation app such as the Kami Chrome extension or notability app, you can purchase this version HERE. 

Students can build their receptive and expressive language skills by understanding how words are related. Teaching how words belong in different categories helps students group familiar words together. Category activities also help with having new words to describe nouns. It is an evidence-based practice that children build better vocabulary skills when taught to associate words by category groups, and attribute features.

How to use the All About Category Boom Card Deck

The first set of slide decks include 20 category groups with 15-20 items per slide that would belong in that category group. With the visual supports for each category group, the speech pathologist can do the following tasks:

⭐Label the words in the category group

⭐Ask wh- questions about the items in the category group

⭐Have students create a sentence with the items in the category group

⭐Compare and contrast items in the category group by similarities and differences

The second half of the category activities have the students practice how words go together. Work on building vocabulary by creating word relationships and understanding how items might not belong in the same group.  The activities include

❤️Naming the category group

❤️Matching two items in the same category group

❤️Identifying what item doesn’t belong in the category group

❤️Sorting items into the correct category group
