This resource goes along great with Growth Mindset! According to research the number one predictor of student success is grit. Grit as in determination, perseverance and willingness to practice sometimes difficult and sometimes boring tasks that take repetition to master.
I made this pennant as an All About Me type activity where students are asked to think about their grit - their support network, times when they ‘stuck’ with it, examples of when they have practiced (cactus makes perfect) and how they ‘stay sharp’ (practice skills that they may have mastered but require repetition to maintain). Students are asked what they ‘thirst to do’ - what they are passionate about another component of success. This pennant could be used at the beginning of the year, as a pretest to determine students grit, or prior to testing. Really you can use this anytime you want to have a conversation regarding success, grit or passion.

I suggest enlarging this on your photocopier if you have younger students or if your students write large. It is still usable on a regular 8.5 by 11 paper but may be a challenge for some student to get their thoughts into the spaces provided.
