I love giving my students the opportunity to be creative, be artistic, and share a bit about themselves. I have always enjoyed having my students create "About Me" posters at the beginning of the year but as is the theme of my life teaching Special Education, it was a struggle to find something both age and academically appropriate.
I created these posters using prompts that are a bit more unique than the classic "my favorite color/animal/ice cream etc. is..." and created prompts that allow for a bit more creativity. The prompts are the same on all four posters, and are as follows...
- "Three things I am good at are..."
- "Two words to describe me are..."
- "When I grow up I want to.."
- "One goal I have for this year is..."
- "If I had $1,000,000..."
There are three blank boxes to allow for drawings. There are four different characters, two boy options and two girl options. This is also a nice way for me to get a quick snapshot of my student's abilities to respond to prompts, their writing skills, and their ability to tie their illustrations into their writing. Plus the end results are beyond adorable. I have the students share their final products on our doc-cam when they are finished.
