This product is a great way to introduce popular fiction genres along with elements of plot. It is a great preview, review, or overview of these important literature concepts. The quizzes included are also a great way to test a student's mastery of the topics. These activities can easily be divided into mini lessons, which would be great in both the library and classroom.
Included is an informative passage all about genre. There is a graphic organizer to go along with the passage for students to fill out either during reading or after. There are questions that go along with the passage for your students to answer. These can be answered individually or as a whole class (using A, B, C, and D cards that the students can hold up).
The genre section focuses on the following fiction genres:
There is also an informative passage on plot. This includes a word search....we all know how much our kids love those word searches! Then there is a plot diagram so that students can record the definitions of the varying elements of a plot when finished reading. There are also some questions about the passage for students to answer either individually or as a class.
Finally, there is a 10 question quiz. Questions address both genre and plot. I love to do these whole class, but you can also print copies for students to do individually, especially if you want to take an individual grade. Again, you can use the A,B,C,D letters or I have created a kahoot with the same questions. My students LOVE kahoot! I let you know exactly how to access the kahoot within this product. If you don't have an account, go to kahoot.com to create your free account.
Be sure to check out my genre posters at my TpT store, The Fouts Files. These would be great to hang in your classroom as you are discussing genre.
