PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Read Kissing Hand or Pocketful of Kisses. Discuss as fiction. Read about raccoons from National Geographic for Kids Website.
Build tree map with printable cards (in pocket chart or glue to paper chart). Students can build their own tree map and then write informational text.

This is more appropriate for first grade students with some writing background at the beginning of the year. However, it could be used with K students with adaptations and support.

With Common Core standards, teachers should expose the students to more complex text and expanded vocabulary. With this activity, students will learn about mammals, hibernate, omnivore, and nocturnal.

Students can write about what they learned after building the class tree map, then their own individual tree map.
