All About Slope (Slope, Slope-Intercept Form, and Point-Slope Form)
Description of student activity:
This activity will teach students about Slope, Slope-Intercept form, and Point-Slope form. Each concept will be defined, real-life applications of slope will be given. Students will then (1) practice finding y-intercept and slope from a graph, (2) graph a line given an equation in Slope-Intercept form, (3) calculate slope given 2 points,(4) Substitute into Point-Slope form to solve for Slope-Intercept form, and (5) use the concepts of “Rise over Run” to draw a picture.
To start this activity, students (or the teacher) will read the introductory pages to the lesson that discus slope, slope-intercept form, and point-slope form. Ideally, students should be self-sufficient in order to free the teacher to assist struggling students one-on-one and/or incorporate their differentiated instruction techniques.
