Is your class getting ready to study spiders? If so, your students will become SPIDER EXPERTS with the help of this 123-page packet!
In this packet, I've included:
Part 1: Posters to hang in your classroom and to use while introducing spiders (real-life photographs that show the parts of a spider, along with important vocabulary).
Part 2: Caught In a Web of Learning – These article pages were designed as a way for you to "hook" your students at the beginning of your spider unit. You can display the article pages on your document camera as a whole group or print and display during small group instruction.
Part 3: Differentiated All About Spiders Mini-Books – These are differentiated mini-books that can be used during small group instruction. There are three versions. Each version is slightly easier than the last. I wanted to give you options because I know that many of our students come in reading at different ability levels. It is up to you to pick and choose which articles you use with your groups. You can either print in color and laminate or print them in grayscale. Text-Dependent Response sheets follow!
Part 4: Spider Close Reading Passages – These articles are PERFECT to use at the beginning of the year to help you and your students get into the groove of closely reading a text that requires multiple reads and answering text-dependent questions. These can either be done together in small groups OR with guided support. Questions about each close reading passage are included.
The following topics included are:
- Black Widows
- Brown Recluses
- Wolf Spiders
- Spiders vs. Insects (a sorting spider vs. insect sheet is also included)
Real-life photographs will enhance your students' understanding of the difference between an insect and a spider. I've also provided sheets for students to write a mini-summary on the spider of their choice.
Part 5: True/False Spider Activity – After learning facts about spiders, students will sort the sentences according to whether they are true or false. I've also provided a cut/paste sheet too that requires students to read simple sentences and glue them in the correct column.
Part 6: Graphic Organizers Galore – These graphic organizers, vocabulary books, and independent practice sheets can be used however you wish! I tried to offer you many different options to help meet the needs of your diverse group.
In addition, I've also included links to some fabulous spider web resources and books!
