This packet will really help your ocean units come to life for your students. It includes vocabulary words, definitions, writing extensions and numerous comprehension pages.
This packet is broken up into four different sections. The first section helps build schema for your students. It includes numerous vocabulary cards and definitions along with 5 games that you can play with these cards.
The next part includes 13 reading comprehension pages. (These can be used as fluency reads, comprehension pages, informative reading and more!) Each page has students identify the main idea and details in the passage. Students will read about the Earth's Oceans, dolphins, crabs, lobsters, whales, sharks, seahorses, sea turtles, fish, starfish and more! Even you will learn some new interesting facts about each animal!
Next, there are many writing activities that you can use to extend your student's learning. Included are KWL pages (both large for anchor charts as well as recording pages), responding to nonfiction books recording pages, bubble maps, pre-writing pages for an ocean report, ocean report recording pages, as well as a write-in reader for your students to enjoy.
The last section of the packet focuses on an activity that you can create with your class called the Great Barrier Reef Project. In this activity students will have to pick an animal that lives in the Great Barrier Reef and then research it and write a report about them. It includes ideas on how to create crafts for multiple animals as well as how to create a floor to ceiling display of the Great Barrier Reef.
