This NGSS inspired science center resource has students describe pets they already know yet also help them learn about the traits and adaptations the animals have that help them survive. There are 3 levels so you can differentiate for your students' levels. Students will be engaged as they apply their knowledge while they sort, put words into sentence order, graph, write, cut, draw, and more. The challenge set gives students the opportunity to use adjectives that describe the pets and their features as well.
NGSS Pets Set 2: Animal Traits, Adaptations, Organisms, Heredity, & Inheritance is what inspired me to create this hands-on activity.
Learn about: bird, fish, mouse, hamster, bunny.
Increase vocabulary to include: whiskers, ears, claws, gills, wings.
Don't forget the adjectives: tan, orange, baby, white, sharp, big, thin, blue and two. Add in some BONUS sorting and graphing activities as well.
Now put it all together and this is what is in your download..
Included in download:
draw it, glue it, write it pages for putting the parts of sentences in order for 5 animals
color word cards for 5 sentences
black and white beginning, ending, and punctuation sentence parts
"I can" list of activities for the sentences
"I can" list of activities for sorting
lined writing paper with graphics
Set A, Set B, and Set C differentiated sentence lists
4 charts for graphing
vocabulary and animal cards
category cards for titles of sorts
Set A is Advanced with more words.
Set B is Basic shorter sentences.
Set C is very short sentences without adjectives
Use the set that meets your students' needs.
Your students will have a new center to get their hands on and build their knowledge about animals.
This is a great introduction to the NGSS 1-LS1-1: Use materials to design a solution to a human problem by mimicking how plants and/or animals use external parts to help them survive, grow, and meet their needs.
Extend these center activities by asking your students to explain WHY the animals have these traits.
This is Set 2 focusing on Pets.
Check out the original set in my TpT store as well.

P.S. After downloading, you may want to draw in whiskers on the bunny to make your sorts more accurate. The graphic did not include them.
This year, enjoy teaching science!
