Print, laminate, and cut out the city/town pages and the buildings, workers, and item cards. Trim the 3 city pages and tape together. Lay the “city” on the table. Lay out the building cards (you can trim around the buildings, worker, item pictures or leave them in the card form – also using Velcro for the buildings is helpful). Using the “where” questions, students answer the question you say such as “Where do you go when you get sick or injured?” and find the hospital, placing it on the “city/town” pages. Play continues in this manner until all the buildings are placed on the “city/town”. Then lay out the worker/people cards and ask the “who” questions such as “Who works at a hospital?” The students find the doctor card and place it on or beside the hospital. Play continues in this manner until all worker/people cards are placed. Then lay out the item cards. Students will answer “what” questions to find items that go with each place and put them on or by the correct building.. Supplemental “why” questions are also included.
When the “city/town” is complete, with buildings, workers/people, and items, students can take turns asking “wh” questions while taking the items off the city!
