FALLS THE SHADOW and Other Stories
"All Fall Down” is taken from Craig Lancto’s short story collection, "FALLS THE SHADOW and Other Stories.”
Each high interest story has a point at which the narrative stops so that readers might have the opportunity to consider how the story will end. Readers have the opportunity to compare their endings with each others’ and the author’s.
Each story is accompanied by vocabulary lists, sometimes annotated, and study questions from basic recall to higher-level essay questions. When it seems appropriate word study and mini grammar lessons are also included. For All Fall Down, exercises include several sets of words often confused and how to distinguish between and among them.
Some of the themes are better for more mature students. The title story, for instance, deals with divorce and suicide. In the latter case, questions are intentionally slanted to force students to confront issues of morality, cowardice and selfishness.
Instructions for maintaining a reading journal are included with each.
