Plot summary of the play (act by act) which students create by completing an events ordering / time line task.
The sentences which give a summary of each act, are not in the proper sequence. Students are asked to number each event in the correct order. There are 10 events for each act,
A useful second task is to get students to write out their solution, thus creating their own summary of the play in bullet point format.
Students who complete this task will have a good summary of the plot that they have created themselves. Instead of just presenting them with notes on the play, they are actively learning while creating their own.
It looks easy, but this can be quite challenging. This activity is an excellent group work activity. Students practice team work, speaking, listening, and (hopefully!) compromising skills. Writing out their answers is a task I usually assign as homework.
