High-level questions for use in a discussion, homework, or classwork. I used this with 8th graders, but at that level, a lot of support is needed. It is better suited for the 9-10 band.
Some comprehension questions, but most questions focus on how the author conveys meaning through narrative details and literary devices. Questions deal with connotation, figurative language, irony, tone, repetition, word choice, juxtaposition, and emphasis.
At least one assignment per chapter, but longer chapters have been broken into two and three assignments. For more support, you can have students work on these assignments in class. Students can work in pairs, small groups, or as a class. For a greater challenge, students can answer these questions at home as an accompaniment to their reading.
