This product includes 9 CVC word sorts to help early readers categorize word family words. These are very helpful in allowing students to distinguish between initial, medial, and final sounds in words, as well as to recognize patterns in words. It is a good way for students to transition from phonemic awareness to basic reading.
This activity takes no more than 30 minutes - and is 15 minutes once the students have cut their words out. It's a good idea to have each child keep their words in a baggie for repeated use.
These are very effective when used in small group activities. Students who are familiar with the activity can easily work independently.
All 5 short vowels have their own sorts, and the remaining sorts include combinations of the vowels. Each word is easy for the student to cut out, and each sort includes blank spaces for the student to write more words.
