Are you wanting to build your classroom environment and add a positive vibe? Do you enjoy watching your students eyes light up? This is a great writing activity to include in your lesson plans during your school year! Classmates will work on providing compliments to their peers and the students will LOVE reading what their peers have to say about them!
Simply give each student their own paper to write their name on the front and back side. I recommend printing these off on bright colored paper to add to the fun. Next, assign each student a number. Then, allow time for students to walk around the classroom filling in a compliment on each student's paper next to their designated number. The number system allows you to quickly check and make sure each student has contributed a compliment. Finally, allow for time for each student to read what has been written about them. They will enjoy all the praise and adoration! For younger grades it would be appropriate to discuss what a compliment is beforehand and give possible examples they could think about writing down. If you teach in a religious environment you could talk about all of the different talents God has given us.
I've included 2 different front pages of this activity-the 2nd has a different version of the poem that includes the word 'God' for my friends that teach in a Christian school environment. The back page of the activity has number spaces that go up to 24 students. I would be happy to modify the page if needed to accommodate a larger classroom!
