This zip file includes:
- A 22 slide smartboard file to be used over several days to teach about -er, -est, -ed, and -ing suffixes
-12 worksheets that introduce the different "rules" for spelling suffixes and the "rulebreakers" and then test the students' knowledge in a mixed assessment
-Answer keys for all the worksheets
The slides include the standards, objectives, connections with prior and future learning, and activities for the suffixes.
This lesson was made for Second Grade, but could apply to First or Third Grade standards as well:
First Grade Standards:
1.RF.3f - Read words with inflectional endings
1.L.1e - Use verbs to convey a sense of past, present, and future (e.g. Yesterday I walked home; Today I walk home; Tomorrow I will walk home)
Second Grade Standards:
2.RF.3d - Decode words with common prefixes or suffixes.
2.L.1d - Form and use the past tense of frequently occurring irregular verbs (e.g., sat, hid, told).
Third Grade Standards:
3.RF.3a - Identify and know the meaning of the most common prefixes and derivational suffixes.
3.L.1d - Form and use regular and irregular verbs.
3.L.1e - Form and use simple (e.g., I walked, I walk, I will walk) verb tenses.
