Students work as a group to design an allegory following the same format as Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. Each student writes a separate and distinct chapter in the life and redemption of a flawed character.
The goal of the project is for group members to create a realistic character and work together to examine its flaws. Members will design guides similar to the novels three ghosts to encourage the protagonists to turn his or her life around.
This packet includes assignment sheet, a worksheet for group members to fill out, and a grading sheet.
When I have given this project in past years, students have created characters ranging from rabid lunch-room gossipers to gang influenced teenagers. The results have been very interesting and the students have had fun!
