A great review and problem-solving activity that can be used in many ways!
Flip Cards/ Flashcards/ Task Cards
My students complete this activity at the beginning of our genetics unit.
At this point, they are learning about the following terms: heredity, genetics, gene, trait, allele, dominant allele, recessive allele, purebred, and hybrid.
Students have NOT yet learned the terms: homozygous, heterozygous, genotype, or phenotype. They will learn these terms in the next section.
1. Print out the sheets with the flip cards. Copy or print so the pages are back-to-back. You should see the cards with the same numbers in the bottom right corners will align.
2. This activity can be completed in pairs or groups. My students LOVE doing this in groups of 3-4, with one student acting as the "teacher" and the other students "buzz in" to give the correct answer! A student could also use the cards for individual review.
3. One student should read the side of the card with the question on it, while holding it up so another student(s) can see the answer options.
4. When the student(s) respond(s), the questioner will check their response against the “correct answer” listed on the question side of the card.
