This is a cute, fun, and memorable way to teach students about greater than, less than, and equal to. The alligator always wants to eat the larger portion of food to fill his tummy, therefore the alligators mouth (>/<) will always open up to the bigger number.
Suggested use: print and cut out each of the alligators and the equal sign and have them laminated. Make one large set with magnets on the back to use during whole group instruction. One of many ideas: write two numbers on the board and have students place the correct alligator (greater than/less than sign) on the board. You could also print out smaller sets for students to use during math stations and/or independent practice.
