This product contains 2 lessons which introduce and then reinforce an understanding of alliteration. Two poems are provided, both written solely to illustrate many alliterating words and how the repetition of sounds makes reading more enjoyable. The first poem is "Butterflies" and includes a detailed lesson. The second poem, which is recommended as a follow-up lesson within several days is "Lizard Lunch". Teacher Answer Keys are included for both.
The teaching tools provided can be used in one of three ways, depending on grade and skill level. 1) For lower grades, the materials can be used as an introduction to and practice finding alliteration, or purely as a fun teacher/class shared activity in the search for words that alliterate. 2) In 4th and 5th grades, the lessons can be used as student practices to review alliteration, and assess student mastery of this concept. 3) In addition, for the upper grades, I have included separate optional materials, in case the teacher wants to introduce "internal alliteration" in "Butterflies", and give students an opportunity to find the one example contained in the poem. A Teacher Answer Key is also included for this optional lesson.
