Product Description
This is a bellringer activity which asks students to read the poem (which easily leads to discussion and analysis), define two vocabulary words from the text (you can have students use context clues to determine the meaning or you can actually have students look the terms up), then find examples of idiom, slang, personification, and refrain in the text. I have my students keep all their bellringers in their interactive notebooks so that they can quickly and easily go back and find examples of literary techniques. Also, after we spend a week on a poet, I have them do a short constructed response on the unique style of that poet. These daily bellringers easily translate into more learning activities if the teacher wants to stretch them out.
