Do you love the Oregon Trail games and simulations? Do you cover the Mormon Trail in social studies and wish there was a similar game for Mormon pioneers? Now there is!
This printable board game gives students a gameplay experience similar to the Oregon Trail computer game, but it is tailor-made for the Mormon Trail instead! Two files containing 32 pages total include:
- game boards (separate boards for Iowa, Nebraska, and Wyoming/Utah)
- overview & instructions
- preparatory pages (My Emigrant Identity and Pack Your Wagon supply list)
- cards for gameplay
- simulation scenarios custom written for the Mormon Trail
This game is best for playing in small groups, with each group (4-5 students per group works best) needing its set of own game boards and materials. Not included, but needed for play: a game marker, a 4-sided die, and a 6-sided die.
Time needed: multiple sittings. How many will depend on the length of each class period. My students needed one class period to choose supplies using the supply list pages and then two days to play. Stopping points are built into the game to assist multi-day gameplay.
