These Challenges are perfect for kinder and first grade students (and even some second grade students!) who are just learning or need a little extra practice with ABCs. These Challenges require students to identify letters and come up with words that begin with different letters. They are also perfect if you are introducing Seesaw to your students for the first time! (If you are just getting started with Seesaw, check out this blog post
The only reason I call them “Challenges” is because it seems to be motivating for students when we can them challenges. ;) They are basically four tasks, or activities that the students can complete within Seesaw.
There are four challenges included in this pack, and everything you need to get your students going first thing tomorrow morning with minimal prep! Just print the letter or picture cards and the challenges and hang or display them for your students and you’re good to go!
There are two versions of the ABC Challenges. You can decide which set you’d like to use depending on your student’s abilities and levels. Or you can always use both to differentiate! In Version 1, students choose a letter card and complete an activity pertaining to the letter. In Version 2, students choose a picture card, determine which letter the word begins with, then completes an activity pertaining to that letter.
Feel free to use these challenges to create Activities for your students within Seesaw too! There are examples of some of the completed challenges to make it easy for you!
Since many of our younger students are new to Seesaw, these Challenges can be a great way to introduce Seesaw to students and include parent volunteers. If you have access to volunteers who are able to work with students, a volunteer can help guide students, answer questions, and keep students on track. You can also use the Challenges:
-At a center
-With older buddies
-As an early finisher activity
-With the teacher in a small group
-In collaborative groups/partners
- These challenges are not simply “paperless” worksheet activities. My goal is to help teachers rethinking the tasks and learning we ask our students to do in our classrooms. These challenges give students a chance to create, take responsibility for their learning through choice, and critical think within Seesaw - not simply complete a worksheet on a device. This requires flexibility on the teacher’s part and trust in your students. Many of these challenges allow students to make their thinking visible, which is always the goal when using devices in the classroom.
