When I made this product, I made it with the thoughts of teaching my own class. Such as, when I teach, I want my kids to hear it, see it, do it, and move while they are learning. So, I incorporated these learning strategies into the following alphabet and flash cards.
A few notes…
For C and G, use both the hard and soft sounds.
C says /kuh/ as well as /suh/ like cup cake and icing.
I tell them the rule about c followed by I, e, or y usually says soft sounds and so on… These cards are perfect for these types of exercises and as a visual reminder.
Also, for vowels, in yellow – I have added long and short sounds for you.
I chose to make the letter y in green. It can sometimes act as a vowel. Since every word must have a vowel, I like this concept.
There are also different ways to print this alphabet and flash cards. Feel free to print and use only what you wish.
Whether you have a new way to teach or you are teaching for interventions – use these cards how you wish.
You can also have students repeat, Dancing Dino D, /d/, /d/, /d/… Just have fun! Let students quiz each other. Act out the letters.
Finally, I have included a fun way to remember each letter. These ways to remember each letter can have an action set to it. For example, for appetizing apple, students can make their eyes real big, hold up their hands, and pretend to eat the apple… saying /a/, /a/, /a/.
Baby bear can be rocked in their arms. Cool cupcake – students can act like they are putting on shades. Dancing dino – well, you can dance when you sing. Elephants can swing their long trunks when excited. (All while saying the letter and sounds)
All these descriptions are made up. This is not part of a series or a song, but I wanted to make something that I could build more activities off of in the future. So, there is more to come in the future, but not in this set.
