Would you like to have a math center that you do a little work up front but then all you have to do is pull out a bag or an envelope for the next 26 weeks? Then this is the file for you! Students practice all counting and anything that goes with it in this math center. Each letter of the alphabet has picture cards to go with it. You print the cards, as many as you want up to 40, laminate, cut them apart and put them into bags or envelopes. I included labels for the bags too. Then you print and copy the book pages. You could put one letter out at a time, too, but I think it is easier to make it into a book and be done with it. The pages are the same except for the letter, so the kids will know what to do week after week without having to ask directions. You can put out different letters with varied amounts in them to differentiate for different leveled groups. The students draw the picture, draw a simple symbol of the picture (to prepare them for problem solving using a picture strategy), draw the number of items with the symbol, write the number, write the number word, and then show the number any other way they can. This is another opportunity for differentiation. you can have students draw the the same number of hearts or you could have students write greater than and less than representations. They might draw tally marks or write equations. They might draw base ten blocks or write story problems... whatever their level is, they should show at least two ways to represent the number differently. Included in this file:
26 pages with letters of the alphabet
one blank page in case you care more about ink than the cute letters :)
one back side of the page
one cover page
a letter u example page
picture cards (each page has 15 cards- print the number of times you need)
a reference chart for number words that includes base ten blocks so resourceful students might draw those, too.
