Helping students gain fluency and confidence with alphabet recognition and letter/sound correspondence in kindergarten is critical in guiding your students to become confident, fluent readers and writers in the future. Students need repeated exposure, as well as ample opportunities for practice throughout the school year. I have developed this set of emergent readers and corresponding response activities to help you achieve this more easily, while practicing sight words, writing skills, cutting/gluing, following directions, and developing vocabulary! I know how valuable your time is, so I made this as low prep as possible. The readers will print 2 per page for quick and easy assembly and the response activities are print and use. The only section that requires laminating and cutting are the puzzle cards.
Please read the product description and look at the preview. I have shown examples of exactly what is included for the letter Bb, in action. The format of the readers and the response activities is the same for each letter.
Would you like to give it a try with your class before you commit to buying the bundle? My Primary Freebie is the entire letter Bb file! Download it and use it, to see if this format works for your students.
If you own my Alphabet Activities Endless Bundle, don’t buy this. You already own it! If you are interested in both, Click here Alphabet Activities, Centers, Journal, Chants, etc. (An Endless Bundle)
and you will get both.
Here is what you will get…
26 (6 page) “A Book About the Letter…” emergent readers: These simple patterned readers feature 2 lines of text. The first sentence highlights the letter and word to go with it, for example: Bb is for boy. The second sentence uses the word in a sentence, for example: Here is the boy. Each reader follows this format, has a predictable/semi predictable pattern, and practices the sight words I, see, an, here, is, a, can, look, at, the, this, it, he, she, they, that, we, have, where, my, you, like, and are. Long and short sounds are included in each of the vowel readers.
26 (6 page) additional a-z emergent reader titles: These predictable/semi predictable readers practice each letter of the alphabet, through the use of alliteration, and are based around a theme or character. They range from simple to more complex, feature varied sentence length and type (questions, dialogue, etc.), and practice many sight words.
**Through both sets of readers, all pre-primer sight words, as well as 24 more are covered.
26 sets of puzzle cards: Each letter has 4 picture puzzle cards and 6 uppercase/lowercase matching puzzle cards. The letter matching cards have 6 different fonts to help students recognize letters shown in slightly different ways.
26 sets of 10 Response Activity templates and suggestions guide
- 4 “Lift the Flap” draw and write templates
- 1 “Create a Spinner” template
- 2 “Draw and Label” templates
- 3 “Draw and Write a Sentence” templates
Once students learn the format, these can easily be used in a writing center.
***Through the readers and puzzle cards, I have given examples of nouns, verbs, and adjectives. The only repeated words are x-ray and box. Letter Xx includes a mix of beginning and ending sounds. 1 letter Zz puzzle piece includes and ending sound.
