Alphabet Family – Build An Ant
Ideal for Pre K/Kindergarten
Use in small groups or independent centers
Letter identification, Letter sounds, and beginning sounds with pictorial representation
Prep: Print on cardstock, cut around each piece of the ant. Laminate for years of use. Put in alphabetical order.
Instruction: Let’s build an ant. An ant is an insect. An insect has 3 body parts, the head, thorax and abdomen. To build the ant we need to match the capita letter with the lowercase letter and the picture that starts with that letter sound.
To add challenge, mix up 2 or 3 letter families and allow children unscramble. Children should also offer another word that starts with the same sound as the letter family they are working on.
