Each of the mats have 5-6 letter groupings in alphabetical order for easy identifying and naming of letters. I use these with my Early Literacy groups as a multisensory activity for students struggling to make connections with the letter symbols. This is an important step before a student can successfully attach the sound to the letter symbol. There is a mat with all 26 letters and one with the vowels for assessment and extension opportunities.
The small groupings of letters on each mat allow the student to make more successful symbol connections to letter names. This will set him/her up for success when attaching the sound to the letters they have learned.
Learning letters symbols and names is an important first step in building a successful foundation for spelling and reading.
