This is a fun and easy game for the Christmas season. My students love to play games like this with a partner or a small group. They even ask to play them during their Free Choice time at the end of the day. Isn't it great when they don't even realize they are learning?!
Included are upper-case letters, lower-case letters, numbers 1-50, over 50 sight words as well as 48 CVC short "a" and 25 CVC short "e" words. You can play each category separately or mix them up for a game that is a bit more challenging! Here is a list of the sight words that are included:
I, a, my, the, go, to like, he, come, here, this, me, for, where, do, you, look, one, see, what, two, up, down, we, want, out, who, are they, she, good, and, there, give, little, that, have, is, it, in, at, can, be, from, was, with, make, play, said, not, yes, no, of
Print, laminate and cut out. I suggest using card stock as students can sometimes see through the regular weight paper! :)
Place the cards in your pocket chart. You can put them in a random order or for students just learning their letters/numbers you can put them in order.
The students (2 or 3 can play at a time) take turns hiding a gingerbread person behind one of the letters/numbers/sight words. The other students should turn around so that they don’t see where the gingerbread person has been hidden.
Once the gingerbread people are hidden, the children take turns identifying the letters/numbers/sight words. If they identify it correctly, they get to take the card and look behind it. If they aren’t able to identify it they do not get to look behind the card. Play continues until all of the gingerbread people have been found.
I hope you and your students enjoy this game!
