This alphabet frieze features bold patterns in a calming blue, green, and teal color scheme. It is designed to be both English Language Learner and International school friendly.
Each poster shows upper and lowercase letters, a common noun as an image (bird for b or nose for n), and the image in print. Each image and word are included to help students hear the letter within a word, which helps students with both reading and writing. Each vowel has an image that corresponds with the short-sound the vowel makes (ink for i, not ice cream) and each image matches the sound the letter makes by itself, no blends (fish for f, not frog).
I designed this frieze for my classroom, where the majority of students are English language learners because I could not find an alphabet frieze that doubled as a teaching tool. The children use it all the time: saying the word they want to write (like "bed") and then look up at the frieze to figure out which letter has the same "e" sound and say "e, like elephant". The ELL teachers in my school use this alphabet as well, since all the sounds and images are clear and internationally understood.
The frieze can be printed as either full-page A4 or half sheet sizes in the pdf settings. I have also printed it in quarters for the students to use as flashcards.
I hope this alphabet is as helpful for you as it has been for me!
