Product Description
Thank you for taking a closer look at this product!

Alphabetical Number Hunts are ideal for use as a math center, task cards,
enrichment exercise, bellringer activity, or whole group lesson.

Background/Purpose:
The journey toward algebraic thinking begins when children are young!
Experiences that invite kids to discover patterns, look closely at relationships,
and work with unknowns lay a strong foundation for future mathematical success. “Alphabetical Number Hunts” is one tool that can be used in the classroom
to stimulate and cultivate this type of higher order thinking.

“Alphabetical Number Hunts” is a gentle introduction to using letters
or symbols to represent unknown quantities. Students are asked to put on
their “detective hats” and search for the value of the named letter. The value will always be a digit between 0 and 9. Either 3 or 4 clues – which require application
of the listed concepts and vocabulary (page 3) – are given for each hunt.
As students analyze and figure out the clues, they will be able to eliminate digits
one by one until they eventually arrive at the only possible value for the named
letter (there is only one correct solution for each hunt).

Included:
• 26 Alphabetical Number Hunts (task cards)
• 23 Vocabulary Cards with Visuals
• Student Response Sheet

Common Core Math Standards:
