These Alphabetical Order and Dictionary Skills Centers are designed to provide independent practice for students after you have introduced the concepts of alphabetical order and dictionary use. Many of these activities can be used again and again with your students’ word study or spelling words and all of them provide several levels of difficulty for easy differentiation!
There are 5 centers total, listed below:
ALPHABETICAL ORDER CENTERS
-Alphabetical Order for Any Words (6 options for directions pages utilizing different numbers of your students’ word study or spelling words, recording sheet, teacher notes)
-Alphabetical Order to the 2nd and 3rd Letter (directions page, 8 sets of cards to alphabetize, recording sheets, answer key)
-Grocery Lists (directions page, 3 levels of grocery lists to alphabetize [6 total], 1 blank grocery list page, teacher notes, answer key)
DICTIONARY SKILLS CENTERS
-Guide Word Sort (2 options for directions pages utilizing your students’ word study or spelling words, recording sheet)
-Using a Dictionary (directions page, recording sheet)
The centers are super easy to prepare; just print, cut out the cards, and copy the recording sheets! You may wish to print the cards on cardstock or laminate them for durability. Also be sure to have a dictionary and your students’ word study/spelling words handy. I suggest using a page protector over the directions pages so they survive center time, then placing a plastic baggie with the cards inside the page protector with the directions for easy storage. The whole thing then fits neatly in a 3-ring binder!
