Introducing alphabetical order can be tricky when you are using words that emergent readers cannot read independently. The look on their faces reflects how overwhelmed they are as they try to remember the rules for alphabetizing IN ADDITION TO attempting to decode the big words.
With this packet only CVC, CCVC, CVCC, and CVCe words are used to introduce alphabetical order. (Levels one through three). Only level four contains "big words." Great for Kindergarten and first grade students.
Level One - No words begin with the same letter so students only need to analyze the first sound in each word to alphabetize.
Level Two - Words begin the same but end in different letters so students need to ONLY look at the last sounds in words to alphabetize correctly. For example, cat, can, cab, etc.
Level Three - Words on the list do have others that begin with the same letter so students must analyze every position (second, third, last letter) to alphabetize correctly.
Level Four - Thematic words, colors, numbers, clothing, shapes, holidays, etc.
Levels one through three have five pages each with 3 paper/pencil pages and 2 cut and glue pages. Level Four has 12 total pages with 6 paper/pencil pages and 6 cut and paste pages. See thumbnails for format examples.
