The students will make altered books using several different techniques. They will express themselves as a unique person and address social issues they feel impact their lives as middle school students. “Altered books is an art form in which existing books are reworked into works of art, often manifests in a variety of ways. The existing book becomes the canvas for the new ideas and images. Sometimes words or images from the book are retained as a part of the altering. At other times it is the books is entirely obscured to become a new idea totally (Maton, 2003).
Included in the Lesson: Objectives, Rationale, State Goals (And Addressing State Goals), Complete Student-Teacher Dialogue (with allotted times), Literature and References, Integration and Connecting Links, Materials Lists (for each day), Organization of Supplies, Demonstration Monologue, Cleanup Procedure, Concluding Activities, Examples, Organization and Leadership/Community Outreach.
