This is a simple but challenging activity to demonstrate Archimedes principle of buoyancy.
Main topics: density, buoyancy, Archimedes principle, mass, volume, trial and error.
Students design and construct aluminum boats and then test them to see how many pennies they can hold. The key is in the shape (the more water displaced, the greater the buoyant force)!
My students love this activity!
