Alvin Ho: Allergic to Girls, School, and Other Scary Things is the first book in a short series of chapter books written by Lenore Look. I use it as a stand alone book in my class, then introduce my students to other books in the series as part of our classroom library, where they are very popular.
Alvin Ho is a second grader that is afraid of many things, including speaking at school. This book addresses fears, trouble making friends, and family relationships in a funny and relatable way.
This book makes a great novel unit for the whole class or for small reading groups. It works well with third and fourth grade independent reading levels, but can be easily used as a read aloud or for advanced literature circles in second grade.
